The week has been a very positive one all round on the Cavex platform. Bidders have placed £500,000 of new positions, a rise of 10% from last week. Sellers have also been active placing £200,000 of new stock with total positions growing 7.3% to £5.8 million. A most healthy sign in the Cavex market place is the bid to offer ratio now at 1.93:1, showing signs of continuing strength in demand from buyers.
Trading data throughout the week has seen its fair share of green on the ticker. Biggest climber of week went to Chateau Latour 2008 at £3,300 up 3.1% since its previous trade in late July. Whilst Chateau Lafite Rothschild has been subject to declines more than most wines in the last three years, we’ve started to witness a slight climb in prices. Multiple vintages traded through the week with the 2002 at £4,500, up 1.6% since late July, the 2003 at £5,880, up 2.6% since early August and the 2006 at £4,470, up 0.4% since late August.
Equally affecting buying activity are the currency rates with the current referendum on Scottish Independence somewhat responsible for the weakening of Sterling last week. With debates hotting up over the weekend and the vote taking place this Thursday on the 18th of September, exporters could well look to increase their margins. Its worth keeping an eye out on those spreads in your active markets this week.
Latest hot offers this week see some varied wines from a variety of regions. Sellers are offering a good selection of Chateau Montrose from multiple vintages, two very well priced vintages of Ausone that are significantly under UK market price and some great drinking wines under £200 IB per case.
Buyers continue to seek well priced First Growths with Lafite and Mouton Rothschild leading the pack. Older vintages of these wines are currently back in demand. Also on the increase are bid prices for wines such as Beychevelle, Duhart Milon, Pavillon Rouge and Pontet Canet across multiple vintages. No doubt the strengthening FX rate of the HKD v GBP is helping raise prices on these wines.
With bids increasing in number and value week on week, now may be the time to ensure your portfolio is up to date and fully uploaded to the Cavex platform. Storing wines in our virtual portfolio system ensures we’re able to keep you informed of exciting bid and offer opportunities as they arise. Simply submit your cellar inventory (downloadable from your warehouse provider) through the template available in your account section or do not hesitate to send it to firstname.lastname@example.org. We’d be pleased up load this for you.
