Cavex reaches its first Birthday and hits the £4million mark.

Has it really been that long already? Today sees us reach our first complete year of trading. It only seems like yesterday that the ticker counted down to 10am on 4th of April 2013 and up went the curtain. The past year has been one of hard work in what has proved to be a very tough market worldwide for Fine Wine.

The Cavex team would like to take this opportunity and extend our gratitude to all our members for the continued support throughout this first year. It has been our pleasure to work with friends old and new over the last 12 months and watch our network widen around the globe. Cavex was built to keep wine trading simple and the commissions low.  We hope that we have moved some way to delivering just that. Our second year should prove exciting as we continue to grow.

As a proper thank you, we would love to throw a party for all our members but, sadly, geography dictates this to be impossible so we would instead like to give something back. A drum roll please…

Market news this week: we are delighted to announce live positions have surpassed the £4 million mark for the first time on Cavex. Rather fitting we feel for our first anniversary. The bidders have been out in force this week adding a staggering £550k of stock. In turn, this has shifted the bid to offer ratio up to 1.35:1, an incredible rise of 28% in just five days.

Second wines of the first growths are the main theme with Petit Mouton and Pavillon Rouge leading the pack across multiple vintages. Chateau Latour has also appeared regularly throughout the week with Bordeaux being 95% of the focus.

Trade highlights of the week were also strongly Bordeaux focussed with Mouton Rothschild continuing its surge. The 2002 traded at £2,750 with a feverish bidding period for the 2000 culminating at a matched price of £10,150 for two cases this morning and more still being bid on.

With Pontet Canet releasing their 2013 vintage, it is no surprise to see vintages of this wine trading through with the 2004 matching at £500 per 12. La Fleur Petrus 2009 has also continued to rise slightly by 3.1% during the week. It was not all Bordeaux though with a beautiful two case parcel of JL Chave’s Hermitage 1999 trading at £2,100 per dozen.

Once again we have highlighted the latest hot stocks up for bid and offer. The eagle eyed will have spotted that there are now two new dedicated tabs for these wines on our home page, so do keep a regular eye on these to see what we think should be trading as positions are loaded up.
